To everyone, thanks for the tips and such.

The skinny is that my email is back up and running now. I had read enough
between Thursday night and parts of Friday and Saturday that I was afraid I was
going to have to go nuclear and reset the whole phone to factory defaults
(complete HD wipe). I found a site late last night that I didn't bookmark and
it doesn't appear to be in my history (maybe I was dreaming). :-) It said
some
thing similar to Rob's email about tables being used to store all of the
settings and such. Apparently, the News article I was working on got too large
or just became corrupted and caused my Mail App to crash. Every time, I tried
to open the Mail App from that point forward it remembered that I was working
on
that email. Even deleting that email from my drafts folder using Safari didn't
work, so I knew it was a phone issue not a network issue. I found this website
that talked about different options to try.

http://oreilly.com/iphone/excerpts/iphone-themissingmanual/iphone-troubleshoot-maintenance.html.
I had tried all of them but the last 2. I backed up my whole phone and then
tried the 2nd to the last option, whcih is resetting the phone's settings. It
doesn't wipe your HD clean, but it does restore the phone's settings back to
factory default. This took some time and then I had to restart or reboot the
phone and finally sync with iTunes. From this point, my Mail App is working
again and I was able to keep all my data. I've only spent most of this morning
redoing all of my settings back to what I like.

Thanks for all of the replies! I'm glad I was able to start a cell phone war!
 ;-)

To Randy, get an iphone! :-) I love mine. Truthfully, I've had mine for a
little over a year. I've got the iphone 4. This is the first time, I've had
ANY trouble with it whatsoever. I use it as my computer most of the time.
It's
wonderful. I don't think I could ever switch back to any thing else. I love
the interface and it is so powerful playing HD movies, games, music, etc. It's
amazing!

I would like to publicly thank JunoGator for bailing me out by posting the
Sun's
articles the past couple of days. I should have asked him Thursday, the day it
crashed, but I thought it would be an easy fix. Thanks SOOO much again,
Steve!!!!

Take care all,

Shane Ford

Clearly, that email is corrupted and you'll need some sort of a reset. Since
deleting the draft email didn't solve the problem, you'll need to let it
rebuild
the database. It's possible that you need an actual reset of the phone, but
before you go that far, just try deleting and recreating the email account. If
you're syncing to the cloud (e.g. Gmail, Google Apps or Exchange), then you can
do that on the road. If you sync via iTunes, then you'll have to wait until you
get home. (If that's the case, then consider setting yourself up to sync over
the air. Gmail is free, after all.) If that doesn't work, then you're in reset
territory, but if so you can just restore your last backup from before the trip
and you'll be all set.

P.S. Don't listen to Randy. He just got that Android phone because he heard the
Google GPS service could help him find the bathouse!

I have an iPhone 4. I was using the Mail app that comes with your phone. On
Thursday night, I was putting together an email of that day's Gainesville Sun
articles. I had at least 7 articles in the single email, when all of a sudden
the mail app crashed and shut down. I have restarted my phone several times and
each time I try to open the Mail app it trys to open to that email and then
immediately crashes. I have gone through Safari to my email account and deleted
that email out if my drafts folder, but I think this may be an issue locally on
my phone and not a network issue. Does any one have any advice on how to fix
this. I'm still in the road coming home from my vacation, so I haven't had a
chance to sync it using iTunes to my computer.
