My 'let's jump on the Urb' list only needs one reason on it: he's a quitter.
Or, he's dumber than Alabama dirt, and I don't believe that for a second.
Developing a health problem in middle age should be expected and dealt with as
an adult. Make necessary adjustments and move on. It needn't be a reason to
abandon ship.

Steven,

I made this point in a previous post. We are really being hurt by the players
that left the program over the last few years. It seems to me that we really
have to give a long hard look at the recruits on the academic side as well as
the behavioral side.

I used to defend Urban's recruits about their troublemaking saying that it was
blown out of proportion and that the players were the victims of selective
enforcement. I am questioning myself now. Perhaps it really was the kind of
play Urban recruited.

Fellow Gators,

I heard something on talk radio this morning that struck me as odd about this
year's team. Dan Hicken stated that UF has fewer Seniors on this year's rosters
than in any year since that late 50's.

I couldn't believe that but I decided to do some research. I came up with the
following article. Take a look.

Some key points from the article.

UF currently has only 71 players on scholarship, that includes walkons like
Dave Lerner the punter. That's 14 fewer than the limit.
UF entered the LSU game with 67 players available, 4 were hurt or suspended for
some reason, John Brantley, Jeff Driskell, Jeremy Brown, and Quinton Dunbar.
During the LSU Game, 3 players, Jeff Demps, Ronald Powell, and Josh Evans were
injured, in the 2nd half UF started with 64 available players.
The 64 players includes players already designated for redshirts, like JaJuan
Story and the OL we signed last February, meaning we only had in the mid-50s
available.

I don't remember the exact numbers, but even during the probation years of the
1980's stemming from the Charlie Pell era, we had more players available than
we do now.

Mike Bianchi made the point in a recent article that Ron Zook left Urban Meyer
more talent than Urban Meyer left Will Muschamp, I can argue both sides of that
issue, but it does make the point that UF is down on talent because we are
REALLY down on numbers and no COACH can make up for that, it will take 1-2
years of solid recruiting to make up for 2-3 bad recruiting years.

Thanks for listening.

I actually think some good could come of this mess. If Jacoby Brissett is the
QB of our future, it's a great idea to get him meaningful game action now when
we can all agree that we are not going to win the SEC championship.

But, if it is Driskell that is the QB of the future, then we don't even have
that as solace.
