As someone who is often accused of being a tree-hugger, it is sad they didn't make it but they survived longer than my horticulturist husband thought they would. One of my high school classmates lost her battle to breast cancer today, and I think like her, they and the AU arborists fought a good fight. Now they need to dig that soil out and replant. It will take decades to replace them, but a good experience for the Aubies watching them grow!
