It was close - but UAB is a better team than you'd think. Their path to the Super Regional against UF was no cakewalk. They were definitely the Cinderella of the tournament, but I think that's only because the competition they face all year isn't that strong. They have three very good pitchers with different styles, and they'll interchange them in the game as needed. Gators made some mental mistakes defensively in the first game (Taylor Schwarz, who hadn't had an error all season has her first in the very first inning of that game, which led to the first UAB run; normally solid 3B Stephanie Tofft sails a throw to 1st). In both games the strike zone was unpredictable at best; both umps apparently didn't want to give the outside pitch, which I think hurt Hannah Rogers' game more than the UAB pitchers' games (Hannah doesn't really throw the rise ball, she mostly paints corners). Gators also had the bases loaded or someone on 3rd that they couldn't advance several times, which is attributable either to the talent of UAB's pitching or some tightness on the part of the Gators (or both). UAB's team was loose the entire time - they definitely believe they'll beat anyone. Look out for this UAB team next year - seriously.
