*Capital punishment in Connecticut* formerly existed as an available sanction for a criminal defendant upon conviction for the commission of a capital offense. Since the 1976 United States Supreme Court<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supreme_Court_of_the_United_States>decision in *Gregg v. Georgia <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregg_v._Georgia>* until Connecticut repealed capital punishment in 2012, Connecticut executed one individual, although the law allows executions to proceed for those still on death row and convicted under the previous law.
Death row inmates are placed in the Connecticut Department of Correction<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connecticut_Department_of_Correction>system. The state's death row <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_row> for men currently houses ten male inmates, who are incarcerated at Northern Correctional Institution<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Correctional_Institution>in the town of Somers <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somers,_Connecticut>.
