A freshman in my dorm caught viral meningitis the first week of school while I was at Georgetown.
The GU hospital was literally next door to our dorm and had some of the finest physicians in the world. He didn't make it a week. His family managed to arrive in time to say goodbye. It has always blown my mind that early detection plus great facilities still meant no chance for this young man.
