Phillips released a statement through UF saying he was was resigning for "personal reasons." This is traditionally coachspeak for "I've been fired for doing something I shouldn't have been doing." I have been covering college football for a long time and I've found that assistant coaches almost never voluntarily resign their $500,000-a-year jobs. It was almost exactly two years ago when Aubrey Hill, another UF wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator, resigned for "personal reasons" after he was tied to recruiting violations when he was an assistant coach the University of Miami.
