Hey, we're trying to bring some history in this series so we thought you should know that Florida used to play Stetson in football. In fact, the two schools played 19 times with Florida winning 15 and two games ending in a tie Back when The Swamp was just a swamp and the games were played at Fleming Field, Florida recorded its biggest win over the Hatters as the Al Buser-coached Gators rolled. Unfortunately for Buser, the win couldn't save his job as he was let go after a 5-3 season. One reason was the three games that preceded the Stetson game. Floria lost to Georgia in Tampa, Florida Southern in St. Petersburg and Tulane in New Orleans. In the three games, the Gators managed to score only two points. The 7-0 loss to Florida Southern was the last straw for the administration, which brough William Kline in to be Florida's fifth football coach. Still, after three numbing losses on the road, the return to Gainesville for the Stetson win was a lift for the team. The Gators would finish 5-3 that season and outscore their opponents 174-46.
