Probably even more complicated than what you have detailed – one possibility I’ve heard mentioned is if the cancel is scheduling a future game to make up for it. And I think there is an “Act of God” clause in there letting them off the hook, but I would think UF would at least cover their expenses. At least, I think that would be the right thing to do, regardless of what verbiage is in the contract.

As far as what's best for the team-- the players and coaches no doubt value a bye week to heal and get ready for a big game with Georgia. On the other hand, they may need a win over Idaho to be bowl eligible, and certainly win total matters in bowl invites. And maybe they won't beat Georgia anyway. As far as what's best for the university-- if they reschedule the game, they have all the usual game costs with no revenue. If they don't reschedule it, they have to refund tickets. Or do they just hand out rain checks for the other two non-SEC games and make people mad at them? And then there's Idaho. I would guess that the contract contains some provisions regarding game cancellation. This would be an act of God, so they probably would not owe the whole fee. But then if Idaho returns, they might have to pay more than they would have originally. I'd love to know all the ins and outs of this.
