I dunno, she said UF is estimating the losses at 1.2 million but didn't say
if that was before or after the insurance paid the claim. Some speculated
the insurance didn't cover the payout of Idaho as UF could have gotten out
of that according to the "Act of God" clause in the contract but decided to
pay anyway plus a $250K deductible. I would presume the insurance would
still cover the cost of the ticket refunds.

This would make sense. The insurance would cover expenses. I am curious
how much the premium is. I was trying to figure out the ticket refund and
unless I am way off, it would have been somewhere in the 2-3 million range?

You are correct Sandy. The same VS poster that gave us a head's up on the
Idaho cancellation acknowledged that with the payout and refunds they
athletic department was hoping to "break even".

My guess is that they DO have some kind of insurance for these situations.
Otherwise, I don't think they'd be so quick to guarantee a $1M payout to a
visiting team, no matter whether the game is played or not.

To quote Lee Corso, .not so fast. This is not an inconsequential amount of
money. I don't know what costs they incurred on Saturday but it was not a
small amount. Add an almost a million dollar payout to the other team, and
the refund of all of the tickets, this would knock a hole in the yearly
profitability. I would guestimate that it cost them upwards of 3 million
dollars between the payouts, refunds, expenses, and lost profit sharing.
(The profit sharing piece may be much larger than we all realize when you
factor in the royalties as well.)

I doubt UAA is losing any sleep over it.

I find it amazing that there is not some out contractually for a situation
like this. I wonder if the AA had insurance against the weather. This had
to have been close to a $2,000,000 loss.

Last Saturday's Florida-Idaho game started and ended with one play. And
that's the way it's going to stand in the record books.

Officials from both schools announced Wednesday they have agreed not to
resume the game that was suspended by lightning and unsafe field conditions.

The game will go down as a "no contest."

The two schools considered several scenarios, including resuming the game on
Oct. 25, an open date for both schools, but decided canceling it was best
for both schools.

"We looked at a number of options and, in the end, we both thought it was in
the best interest of our student-athletes and football programs to play out
the remainder of our respective schedules as they stand," UF athletic
director Jeremy Foley said.

The two schools have agreed to play a game at Florida Field in 2017.

Florida will fulfill the terms of the contract between the two schools and
pay Idaho its $975,000 guarantee by February 1, 2015, as outlined in the
agreement. UF also will refund those who purchased tickets to the game.

"I want to thank UF, especially AD Jeremy Foley, for the professional and
first-class way they worked through this issue and the focus on
student-athlete welfare," Idaho athletic director Rob Spear said. "It was
not in our best interest to play 10 consecutive weeks without a bye week. We
look forward to our return to Florida in 2017."

Had the game been resumed on the open date for both schools (Oct. 25), the
Gators would have concluded the regular season with games on nine
consecutive Saturdays.

"Like all Gators, I wish we could have played the game Saturday night, but I
support the decision made by both athletic directors," Florida head coach
Will Muschamp said. "As I said earlier this week, our focus is getting our
players and team ready for Eastern Michigan and we are excited to get back
out there in front of our passionate and loyal fans."

Starting quarterback Jeff Driskel said Tuesday that the players would be OK
with whatever decision the schools reached.

"There are a lot of logistics that go into it that are well out of my
reach," Driskel said. "You know, whatever they tell us to do, that's what
we're going do and that's basically all there is to that."

Junior defensive end/outside linebacker Dante Fowler Jr. said Wednesday that
the Gators are ready to move on regardless of the decision.

"It really doesn't matter," he said. "Going into the season when you start
getting things rolling, you don't think about that anymore. That was last
week."

All fans who purchased a ticket through the Gator Ticket Office to the Idaho
game will be given a full refund of the single-game ticket price that they
paid for the game. This includes all Gator Booster and UF student
season-ticket holders, single-game, group and mini-plan ticket holders who
purchased through GatorZone, those who called, visited, mailed their order
in to the Gator Ticket Office or those who purchased through the
TicketMaster Exchange site. The regular ticket price for the Idaho game was
$25, the student ticket price was $15 and group ticket pricing varied.

tickets, the refund automatically will be issued to the credit card by Sept.
