I was talking with a friend today about the situation. Normally in a normal situation, larger police departments will have a crime lab. DNA tests would be quick. I suspect that UF may do the crime lab things for the police department. Since this involves a student, it may not be appropriate for the university to do the DNA test. Consequently the evidence would more likely be sent to the state lab in Tallahassee--Thus the delay in getting the results and charges being filed.
