Any Gator fan who boos Jeff Driskel is classless
<http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/orlnews-mike-bianchi-20130507-staff.html> Mike Bianchi ORLANDO SENTINEL <mailto:[email protected]?subject=Regarding%20Any%20Gator%20fan%20who%20boos%20Jeff%20Driskel%20is%20classless> mbianchi@tribune.com Florida coach Will Muschamp says he might start struggling quarterback Jeff Driskel, the redshirt junior from Oviedo's Hagerty High, instead of true freshman Treon Harris tonight against Missouri. Personally, I would start Harris to see if he can provide a spark to UF's perennially feeble offense and then insert Driskel if needed. But that's not the point I want to make today. The point I want to make is this: Any Gator fan who boos Driskel if he trots onto the field as the starter is a classless jerk. There's absolutely no excuse or any reason for college fans boo their own players — period. And, sorry, I don't buy the explanation of those fans who might say, "We're not booing Jeff Driskel, we're booing Will Muschamp for starting Jeff Driskel." Puh-leeze. It's Driskel on the field hearing the boos and the one who has to deal with the discouraging feeling of being publicly embarrassed in his home stadium. Stephen Garcia, the former South Carolina quarterback who is now a contributor for the college football website SaturdayDownSouth.com, certainly wasn't the most popular Gamecock quarterback Steve Spurrier ever had and he was eventually kicked off the team. However, he told me Friday, "I was never booed at home. Never . . . That would be terrible if (Driskel) gets booed. Awful. That would absolutely demoralize you." -- -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "GatorTalk" group.
