Patterson at TCU.

I like the Kerwin Bell idea.  Let him come in and do what SOS did...

Whoever gets the call needs to be an offensive guru.  We have done well with
that model.  We did well with SOS.  We did well with urban.  We did poorly w
Muschamp and Zook-  both defensive types.

If Muschamp were sent packing today and Kurt Roper was named interim there are
a couple of possible positive outcomes. We would get to see if the play calling
and offense was being micromanaged by Muschamp as has widely speculated for the
last 4 years. The team might rally around Roper and win a couple of games.
I'll also throw in Doc Holliday from Marshall as a strong candidate. One of the
top recruiters in the game, great offense, knows the state. Downside is at 57
he might be considered "too old".

If the Gators won every game left on their schedule, I doubt Muschamp can save
his job. I know it, you know it, Muschamp knows it, and Foley knows it. So it
is just a matter of timing. IMHO, there is no reason to fire coach now because
I see no advantage to doing so. Our offense is putrid because we have had 3 OC
and 3 O-line coaches in four years and 4 WR coaches (2 elevated GA's) in 4
years. No wonder our quarterbacks can't read defenses, our line can't block,
and our receivers can't catch. I fully acknowledge Muschamp is responsible for
this and will pay with his job soon enough. But this offense is so bad, I
cannot see a single thing including firing Muschamp that could help it. While
I have accepted our fate for this year I am making my list of potential
candidates as I am sure Foley has done or is doing.

So here is who I have come up with so far:

The Splash hires:
1) Jim Harbaugh
2) Jon Gruden

The Former Gators;
1) Joe Wickline
2) Kerwin Bell
3) Brian Schottenhiemer

The Retreads;
1) Bob Stoops
2) Steve Spurrier

Other Coaches;
1) Dan Mullen
2) Sumerlin (TXAM)
3) The guy at Michigan St (Donatello or something like that)
4) Rich Rodriquez

Okay I picked all the easy ones but I am sure there are others. Either way I
figure Foley is going to go with a big name splash coach or does he go back to
the young up and coming coach. Do you go long term or short term, I know this,
I am glad I don't have to make the call. I wonder if Foley will check with the
bull gators this time around.

If Foley doesn't fire him now he must hold out hope he won't have to fire him
at all.

One possible reason for the delay I’ve read in another forum is they may need
the new president to come on board to approve buy outs and budget for new
coaches. It’s also possible there is something in his contract that reduces the
buyout if we have a losing season. Still, it’s getting so bad now I think they
really need to act sooner rather than later.

I think this is the perfect time to fire him midseason. You have a bye week.
You have an offensive coordinator who WAS an upcoming and a head coach
prospect. Lose Muschamp, slap an interim head coach title on Roper, which
effectively removes the handcuffs he has right now with Muschamp, and let Roper
show what he can do. If he truly has no weapons and our QB and receivers truly
are this bad, then it is all on Muschamp and his recruiting. However, Roper
said this group could be effective, so why aren't they??? Let him prove it.

This offense is NOTHING like what Duke ran... Giving Roper the helm for the
remainder of the season is his tryout. Can his offense, without Muschamp's
influence, work? If it does, keep him. If not, we start anew with a coaching
staff.
