Someone please talk me off the ledge…..

When current Michigan offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier left Alabama for
Michigan, many wondered why.
Though there was speculation that he and Alabama coach Nick Saban had
differences of opinion, neither spoke of them.
That was until this week, when Saban talked about his current offense under
coordinator Lane Kiffin, which has recorded at least 538 total yards in all
four games and is on pace to set program passing records.
"I've been begging the offensive coordinators around here to open it up ever
since I've been here," Saban said during his Tuesday news conference, the video
of which was posted on
al.com<http://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2014/09/nick_saban_lane_kiffin_alabama.html>.
"Jimbo Fisher (at LSU) was the best offensive coordinator I ever had that did
what I wanted to do. And everybody always wants to run the ball."
Saban quickly said that, at Alabama, "we always had the team to run the ball
and we always had a very good defense, and it was really smart to play the way
we played. Now we have more skill players."
Alabama won national titles in 2009, 2011 and 2012 (the latter under Nussmeier)
and was a special teams gaffe away from playing for another one last year,
Nussmeier's second season.
But with Nussmeier having worked under Saban the past two years, he certainly
would be included in the group referred to this week.
"My philosophy hasn't changed at all," Saban said. "I've always asked for this.
'Why don't we throw the ball on this look instead of running this play where we
can't block everybody?' Which is what we do now. It's a pro philosophy, and
Lane's got experience as a pro coach. That's his background, that's what he
does."
Nussmeier came to Michigan and has said that he wants a physical offense that
establishes the run, just as U-M head coach Brady Hoke has always said he
wanted.
So far, that hasn't worked well this year. The Wolverines rushed for 350 and
276 yards against lower FBS opponents but were stymied in the losses at Notre
Dame (100 total rushing yards) and against Utah (118).
