I'm just trying to see who you would have picked, because nobody that I
guess I'd have considered an elite seemed to be available or lure-able.
I've said on here that I was on the Archie Miller bandwagon for sure but I
don't think you'd have considered him an elite either. Certainly White
wasn't on my radar at all, so yeah, I'm a bit surprised, but the reaction
nationally has been really good.

I think the reason you didn't see an NFL coach is because of our fan base.
We were spoiled by the HBC and his exciting offenses. Even when they
didn't win a game, you always felt something might happen, mostly because
Spurrier would basically do just about everything and anything. One of the
biggest gripes - even during the Meyer years when UF was winning - was how
"boring" the offense was. Most NFL coaches would pretty much have the same
Muschamp philosophy of ball control and defense, although maybe not to the
incompetent extreme on the offensive side. There was no way Chip Kelly was
coming to UF, for example.

As for Zeb's point about Sloan, that is true - I was mostly referring to
the coaches currently on staff that are successful, though I did note
Spurrier.

Sloan was somewhat successful after coming back; took him 7 seasons to get
to the Tournament (Sweet 16); he followed that with a 2nd round appearance
and 1st round appearance in his next (last two) seasons. His Gators also
won our first SEC Championship in his final season of '88-'89.

Of course the Sweet 16 appearance and 2nd round appearances were both
vacated due to Vernon Maxwell being ineligible.
