Gainesville SUN GATORSPORTS

TULSA, Okla. - For the first time in 15 years, the University of Florida
women's tennis team is bringing home an NCAA Individual Championship.

Sophomore Brooke Austin and junior Kourtney Keegan dominated Cal's No. 4-ranked
Maegan Manasse and Denise Starr to win the program's fifth NCAA Doubles title.

The No. 3-ranked Gator tandem were off to a quick start in the first set,
opening play with a break and hold to lead 2-0 early in the contest. Cal would
hold serve and grab one point back only to see the Gators hold, break and then
hold again to push their lead to 5-1. Austin would serve out the first set and
hold to give Florida a 6-2 set win.

The second set started much like the first with a break at deuce point on a
hard Keegan forehand down the line to give the Gators a 1-0 advantage. From
there, UF dominated the Cal duo in the second set. Two holds and two breaks
later, it was Keegan to serve out the match. Florida would win the match and
the NCAA Doubles National Championship on an overhead shot from Austin to seal
the victory.

The Gator tandem closes the book on the 2016 with a 33-7 record and reached 59
wins in their Gators careers playing side-by-side. The tandem was 18-6 in 2016
against ITA ranked opponents, including four wins over Top-20 opponents in the
NCAA Tournament to capture the 2016 doubles title.

The Doubles NCAA National Championship is Florida's first since Whitney Laiho
and Jessica Lehnoff won the title in 2001. The doubles title is the Florida
women's tennis program's ninth overall individual title with five doubles and
four singles titles.
