I agree, Steve. I didn’t mean to imply our players suck, but I also didn’t want
to use injuries, youth and fatigue as an excuse---like coach won’t, but it is
true that the young players are showing great talent. They are just being out
matched by older and more experienced players. As for scoring 2 offensive td’s,
that’s where I get the bama being exposed part---we clearly could have scored
even more. A little better run blocking, more time without pressure, and a qb
who can hit his receivers more often would make a world of difference. And yes,
LSU, fsu and bama three in a row is brutal for anyone. We’re looking good going
forward. I hope we can win our bowl game and come out fighting again next year.

Subject: Re: [gatortalk] my thoughts on the game

I actually thought our young OL did a creditable job of pass blocking. It
looked to me that the QB held the ball too long. No one had scored an offensive
TD against Bama since October and we scored two.

Injuries decimated our defense, and throw in the three game road gauntlet of
LSU, FSU, and the SECCG and even our limited depth was just worn down. Missed
tackles like we saw last night are a sign of fatigue, and that is one unit that
had every right to be tired.

We had two freshen, two sophomores, and a junior manning our OL last night
against a bunch of first round draft picks in Bama's front seven. As the season
has gone on they have gotten better and better. and most of them haven't had a
chance to fill out to SEC proportions yet.

If we find a QB that can go through his reads and get the ball to the right guy
quickly you won't even recognize this offense next year.
I share Jay's (measured in my case) optimism.

Our 2 biggest issues are qb and o-line. We had guys open down field all day
just like the fsu game, but the qb had no time. When he had time, he made some
horrible throws---and some good ones. Particular to this game, the 1st int
looked like pass interference that wasn’t called and it was a game changer with
the pic deep in our territory. I thought the defender shoved our receiver from
behind and stepped in for the pic. The second pic was thrown 5 yards behind an
open man in the secondary with green grass ahead of him---who’s fault, I don’t
know. Blocked punt….enough said. Second half, man wide open and deep with
nobody behind him. Certain td, but not enough air under the ball and it gets
tipped away. Seriously, with a touch better blocking and a better qb this game
is very close if not a win for us. I believe bama was exposed. I like to root
for our conference, but I think bama gets eliminated in the first round. Just
my 2 cents. We are very close to being a great team again. Go Gators!!!!
