The Santa Fe River has rapidly risen 15 feet within the past 36 hours due to heavy rainfall over North Florida from Hurricane Irma, and could force Interstate 75 east of Ft. White to be shut, according to the Florida Department of Transportation. If the river rises to an unsafe level, the bridge will be impassable both northbound and southbound and would be closed immediately, transportation officials said. Additional bridges that may be impacted include those along U.S. 27, U.S. 41, Florida 47 and possibly U.S. 121. The attached map shows potential detours around the affected section of I-75. State transportation officials are monitoring the river’s flood stage to see if it impacts bridges along the interstate as well as on nearby state roads.
