Ethan I do not know how much of the Third World countries you've seen, but if you're new then I suggest you begin your India visit from the South. Take a flight to Bangalore, explore Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra and work your way up to Goa, Mumbai and then the (dirty) North Indian parts. This way the culture shock won't be such a rude one! Southern India is cleaner, more literate and intellectually more advanced than the North (no offense, North Indians). And I include Maharashtra in Southern India as I write this just to make it easier for you.
