Hello all,

I just wanted to tell you about a short film festival that will be held at
Marine Drive, Mumbai this weekend.
It's an outdoor festival, so as soon as the sun sets the films will start!
The Rewinds Films documentary on the flamingos of Mumbai, IN THE PINK will
open the festival on the 27th of April, and our film on India's dancing
bears, THE LAST DANCE will close the festival on Aril 29th.
There are a lot of fiction and non-fiction shorts – some I have seen – like
Turtles in a Soup, Naxalism & Reflections, which are really good. 
So do come. All the details are below.

FRIDAY 27TH APRIL -  DAY ONE

 1) In the Pink (Documentary) 
    This telling 'urban wildlife  documentary' investigates the phenomena of
20,000 flamingos that choose to visit Mumbai, the densely populated
financial capital of India, every year.   
   Brilliantly made, the film has been acquired by Discovery channel and
will air on May 3rd 2007 at 8pm.

 2) Bhaichaara
       A very funny, silent tale of two estranged brothers who meet at a
café. What happens next? Watch the one-and-a-half minuter to know more!!

 3) Just One Rupee
       A funny look in the day of the life of a man who's fighting his
divorce case and the hassles of getting a One Rupee coin so that he can call
up his lawyer. Very short, very cute!

 4) Paisa
       Paisa is a 11 min. story of an insane man who is looking for nothing
more than that one square meal. After being hunted away by people in his
strife for a meal and getting paisa he is still hungry…

 5) Love Birds
       A love story told flamboyantly! If you're a lover, you'll love this!

 Dur: 30 mins.


 6) 5 & a 1/2
       Five and a half stories but one ending. Brilliantly captured, the
film is testimony of the short film quality that India is capable of.

SATURDAY 28TH APRIL -  DAY  TWO

 1) Reflections
     A film about nameless drifters pondering over what is happening in
their lives. Brilliantly shot, winner of Best Cinematography award at the
New York Film Festival.

 Dur: 8 mins.


 2) Talk to Me
       A one man story about someone who's desperate to get someone to talk
to him. Technically interesting since it's been shot in just two single
shots!

 Dir: Manoj Gupt
 Dur: 15 mins


 3) Pal do Pal
       A couple that's deeply in love… A marriage that seems perfect… Till a
villain called "suspicion" seeks in to wreak havoc. A sensitive love story.

 Dir: Rabindra N Choubey
 Dur: 13 mins.


 4) Rehguzar
       This XIC student's film is a sweet and touching tale about the
relationship between an old beggar and a street singer.

 Dur: 4 mins.


 5) Dare to Answer
       A school girl who dares to speak her mind. Who says school children
don't understand what the grown ups have been doing to their world!

 Dir: Tariq Mohd.
 Dur: 4 mins.


 6) Turtles in a Soup (Documentary)
   This film brings to light for the first time, the thriving illegal trade
of freshwater turtles in India. The rich diversity of freshwater species are
being vacuumed from the wild, at an astonishing scale, to   
   feed the markets of South East Asia. Time is running out for India's
turtles.

 7) Bhookh
       Hunger and poverty can be the biggest villains in a human's life
leading you to do things you otherwise wouldn't. A poignant tale about a
father and his 3 children.

 8) Home Delivery
       A very rare scary short film about a guy and a pizza delivery girl.
You're definitely not ordering for Home Delivery after this!!

SUNDAY 29th APRIL - DAY THREE


 1) Naxalism (Documentary)
     A film about the Naxal movement which began in the 60's in a small
district called Naxalbari in West Bengal and later spread to many states. It
gives an insight on the main elements affected by the movement namely the
police, the government, the media, the people and Naxals themselves.

 Dur: 21 mins


 2) Bilori
       An FTII student film about the gender discrimination prevalent in
rural India when it comes to simple things in life. A very touching story
about a small boy, his sister and their family. Very, very cute. Highly
recommended.

 Dur: 12 mins.


 3) Mochi
       Mochi is the story of a young boy of a shoemaker, well educated and
striving for a better living but has to opt for his family occupation. 
   
 Dir: Praveen Bhamre
 Dur: 11 mins.


 4) Aids (animation)
     An animated take on a social issue… Very beautifully explained.

 Dir: Rutwij Vaidya
 Dur: 3 mins.


 5) The Last Dance (Documentary)
     This is the premiere of Ashima Narain's documentary on dancing bears… a
film that documents the crime and cruelty that is blatantly committed upon
the sloth bear across India. Ashima won the UK Environmental Film Fellowship
to make this film. It will air on Discovery Channel on June 5th, 2007 –
World Environment Day.
