Dear Saurav,

The first thing that you need to take care of is your own security. If
coming out jeopardises that, there is no point in doing that. Also coming
out can have many forms and it need not necessarily mean that you are out to
your family or local friends or workplace. It means that you are out where
you can be safely out and which can be verified if necessary by cross
referencing. In other words the fact that you are writing on this list under
your own identity is itself being out.

Also please understand that it is not a injunction that you HAVE to come
out. As long as you are confident about your sexuality and it does not
affect you adversely, and you do not let it govern any of your actions in a
manner that affects others adversely, you do not have to come out at all.

Having said that, often gay men have to make a choice about creating a
community of like minded people in the locality they are in. We have seen
that happen with groups in small town in South India and in West Bengal.
Once that support structure is created, it becomes that much easier for
someone to be themselves, and even to come out. If it is possble for you to
do this in where ever you are located, it would be a very bold and
courageous step forward. It may even direct your frustrations towards more
positive action. Please give it a thought.

Best regards,
Aditya Bondyopadhyay
