Before you consider using UPnP, you may want to do some research. There has been a lot of talk that UPnP is a major security hole.
Gibson Research has a page for information about this: http://grc.com/unpnp/unpnp.htm Granted, this page is also promoting GRC's software that disables UPnP, so you should take this with the proverbial grain of salt. There are, however, links on this page to other sites, including a warning issued by the FBI (although a later version of the same memo doesn't include the warning). Probably a less biased source (although it doesn't have all the different sources packaged so tidily) is the CERT Coordination Center. A quick search for upnp turned up 24 hits (although only some of these are directly about UPnP).
