i had this happen way back when i first got my flash unit.  i tried putting 
it on an old
P3 motherboard.  IIRC, it was an award BIOS.  not saying award is bad, but 
it was an
older MB and i think it couldn't understand the flash on disk module.  it 
detected it and
then would hang (as your case).  i think you're screwed, unless a bios 
upgrade fixes it
(is a new motherboard feasible?)  i put it in a vanilla intel 810 MB with a 
433mhz celeron.
