Hi! I had same kind of problems with SMC's jumper-configurable ultra.Always after boot it gave me device timeout errors in "de1". I tried all kinds of hacks ( even checking the boot disk for possible starting params...) for no avail. My solution was anyway quite simple and interesting ... I have hard-disk with fully configured Debian Linux in it sitting on my GNATbox. I first boot Debian up with correct IRQ's IO's etc. for the cards and then do soft "reboot" from Linux my system. After that my GNATbox comes up automagically and "lo and behold!" no timeouts anymore! :o I think the reason is missing EEPROM or whatever that piece of silicon is where the card's configuration data should sit.
Best regards, Reko
