The email proxy has nothing to do with sending mail. It only
comes into play when you receive mail.

Your problem sending mail is almost certainly that your email
client is trying to use the external address of the GNAT Box
to connect to your email server, rather than using its "true"
address on your LAN or PSN. The GNAT Box email proxy then
responds to the connection and rejects the mail because it
is not addressed to your domain.

Check your DNS configuration. If you don't have an internal
DNS server then what is happening is that when your email
client tries to connect to your mail server, it is getting
the address from your ISP's DNS server, which responds with
your GNAT Box EXT address. You will need to either add an
internal DNS server that responds with the "internal" address
of your mail server, or you will need to configure your email
clients to connect using an IP address instead of a name.

If you do have internal DNS then make sure that you are not
using the same DNS lookups internally that you are providing
to the outside world. This would result in the same problem
as if your ISP were hosting your DNS and you had no internal
DNS server. The solutions are also the same.

If you have separate internal and external DNS servers, then
check your internal DNS server to make sure that it is returning
the "real" IP address of your mail server on the PRO or PSN, and
not returning the address that you give to the outside world
(the GNAT Box's EXT address).

Subject: Incoming e-mail being rejected? And e-mail proxy question...

Hi,

I have been getting some errors like the following:

Feb 1 10:06:33 psn FILTER: Connect to closed port : TCP fxp0
[198.3.99.25/25]->[xxx.xxx.xxx.x/20202] l=0 f=0x12.

Does this mean some mailers are not sending mails to us? I thought most
mailers send mail to a destination port of 25, but this one is start on 25
and ending on some random port.

Doing a nslookup on the source ip reveals it's coming from
"goatee-rwcmta.excite.com".

Also, we had this strange problem. Using the e-mail proxy, we were
receiving our e-mail, but we could not send any e-mail. Every domain was
being rejected. Why would this happen? When I use a tunnel on port 25,
everything is okay.

Any help is appreciated.

Lowell Tyler
