If you are using the latest GNAT Box PRO, then you may
purchase the multi-port option which allows you to have
more than three NICs. The additional NICs may be configured
as type EXT, PSN, or PRO. Keep in mind that if you
configure multiple EXTs, the GNAT Box will *NOT* perform
load balancing (Load balancing isn't part of the job
description of a good firewall, anyway. Load balancing
is usually done at the router, which can manage redundant
routes using a protocol such as BGP).

The upper limit of NICs would depend on the bandwidth and
traffic coming into them, whether you were configuring
VPNs, and on the resources of the machine that the GNAT
Box is running on.

My experience (and it seems to be the experience of others
here) is that the GNAT Box can handle a huge amount of
traffic using a pretty lightweight (ie, 486DX-66) PC.
If you add VPNs, then you will want a faster processor
and more memory, as encrypting/decrypting traffic is far
more resource intensive than routing/stateful inspection.

Hi,

Is 3 NICs the limit for GNATBOX? What is the maximum recommended.

Thanks
  Steven
