I haven't looked at PPTP in some time but I doubt that Microsoft has changed much. Although Microsoft has fixed some of the PPTP security holes, it hasn't addressed all the protocol's vulnerabilities. All PPTP control operations, such as connection setup is done in clear-text in the control channel (without authentication). This design flaw leaves PPTP wide open to DoS attacks and provides hackers with the opportunity to gather some valuable information from this unencrypted and unauthenticated control channel.

Can anyone recommend a secure VPN protocol then?? i was alway under the influence PPTP and L2TP where the industry standards for vpn???

GTA's firewalls support PPTP, that is to say allow it to work through
the firewall. However the firewall doesn't directly support PPTP.
The encryption in PPTP isn't that robust, nor is PPTP that safe.

The firewall does have the full IETF full strength encryption
algorithms (DES, 3DES, AES, Blowfish, Twofish, CAST128) as part of
the IPSec VPN facility.

Hello,

A question on PPTP support.
Are any of the GTA products able to encrypt using
PPTP?
