Richard,
We have the same basic setup here. Initially we had some trouble because
we had been relying on lmhosts file for NB name resolution. After setting
up a WINS server on the GB1000 (hub) side and setting all PC's at spoke
locations to look for it by IP address, problems disappeared.
Also, FWIW: we found that many of our older machines running Win95 had a
"undocumented feature" wherein changing ANY IP network information would
blank the WINS server info. Until we figured out that we needed to set that
last, long-distance troubleshooting was a tad tricky.
  Of course, YMMV...

Subject: [gb-users] problem with gnatbox-robox VPN

Hi,

Wondering if anyone can kindly help with this one.

We have a gb-1000 to Robox VPN (dsl) which very nearly works.
2000 server on the gb1000 end (10.0.0.x), 2000 workstation on the robox end
(10.0.1.x)
manual VPN using 3des for first phase, des for second

..
Pings, telnets, DNS, ftp and www all work through this VPN,

Anything involving netbios (mostly) doesnt work.

1. Connecting to an exchange server times out
2. Doing a "net use" from the gb-1000 end to the robox end works, but only
if
it is net use j: \\ipaddress\share , and not net use J: \\computername\share
,
although ping by host name is always successful.
3. Doing a net use the other way results in a long wait then "the command
completeing successfully", but then a "file not found" if you take a
directory
of the drive.

Pings by hostname/netbios name work in both directions, either using wins or
dns (have tested by disabling each), have also tried lmhosts, hosts, you
name
it... have rebuilt the wins database.
Have had much help from gsec, who believe that this isnt a firewall problem,
but have also had M$ going through the name resolution thing, and they cant
see any problem with that.

Has anyone come across a similar problem?
