I cannot reproduce with:
  as: Sun Compiler Common 10 s10_73 11/23/2004
  ld: Software Generation Utilities - Solaris Link Editors: 5.10-1.477

Could you post the backtrace and an excerpt of the dissassembled code around
the hot spot?
