Yes, but IMHO not at the cost of disabling the test on targets where it is supposed to run and pass. Targets without stdint.h are rare and this sort of optimization really does need to be tested on the 8-bit and 16-bit targets too. -- http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=29749
