------- Comment #10 from zlynx at acm dot org 2009-08-15 00:02 ------- I erased every trace of experimental GCC versions and support libraries. Then I rebuilt GCC 4.4.2 (from SVN) using the system provided GCC 4.3.
The problem went away.
