If you think the C++ language is incorrectly defined then take it up with the C++ Standard Committee, or your national standards body, not with GCC. GCC implements the C++ standard. If there's a problem with the standard, change the standard, not GCC. But the standard won't change in this respect. You cannot initialise a non-const reference with a temporary in C++, Microsoft's compiler is wrong to accept it, try Intel's compiler for confirmation if you don't believe me. Andrew already told you to read about rvalue-references, which allow you to bind a reference to a temporary, but you're too busy arguing to accept that maybe, JUST MAYBE, someone knows something you don't.
