Please try to figure when it started... i have similar effects for 4.5/4.6/4.7/4.8 with my .lds script. afaics in the assembly code, the non-debug (good) version only references external _S_empty_rep_storage symbol while the debug (broken) version defines the _S_empty_rep_storage symbol as weak/gnu-unique.
