Sorry about the delay; it's been a complicated week. This patch fixes the infinite recursion, hopefully without introducing any problems. However, I'm afraid I may not have time to finish testing this before going mostly offline till nearly the end of the month, so could you (or anyone else) by any chance run with it and turn it into a contributable patch, with testcase, regression testing, ChangeLog entry and everything else one might need?
