See also at least two gcc-patches "attempts" which say what's the fallout.
IIRC the last time I tried I "materialized" the scheduling effects of TER but
removed the expand-level "combining".
IMO all multi-stmt to single RTL expansion parts should be moved to ISEL or be
done post expand via forwprop/combine (address generation, combinations with
memory operations).
