Closing as state above.
The original report was for those two examples and was fixed by
r5-1628-g5bcb66dffabd20.
The later comments seem to be about different problems which are either covered
by other bugs (such as Bug 61582 or Bug 86164), or in the case of "CPU
exhaustion" it's not a bug, that's user error for writing a silly regex.
