During a recent investigation of work-arounds used in the fiats and formal
packages several gfortran failures were identified. I am opening this PR to
track these and capture the fixes. I will post additional information as I can
gather it. Some of these found have existing PR numbers but not all. I will
reference existing PRs when identified. (approximately 14 bugs were
identified.)
