Bug ID: 127801
Summary: Removing space after shebang #!
Product: gcc
Version: 17.0
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: other
Assignee: unassigned at gcc dot gnu.org
Reporter: dragon-archer at outlook dot com
Target Milestone: ---
Many scripts (some generated by autotools, some not) have a space in its
shebang, for example "#! /bin/sh".
This was likely brought in by very old autotools, which prefers this style due
to some rumors. But this has changed since 2005, see [1]. Some other
reference[2] also explained the whole history of this.
Though both "#!/bin/sh" and "#! /bin/sh" works, it'd be better to unify the
style.
I'd like to submit patch for this. Considering that it'd be very mechanical
(simply replacing "#! /" with "#!/"), I'm not sending it now.
