That sounds good! I think there is also some use of cairo not connected to
porting. Is it currently possible to run some of the test files and generate
e.g. a PDF document with it on RISC OS? If this is possible, can you give me
a hint on how to do this?

I don't know if this helps. The other way round works. I successfully
compiled and ran the sample program from here,

http://cairographics.org/renderpdf/

All I had to do was copy '/etc/fonts' and '/usr/share/fonts' from ubuntu.
