Note that stdout is by default buffered (when attached to a tty) and gets
flushed when a newline is seen, or when a stream gets read (e.g. scanf)
or when the buffer is full.  So use stderr for debugging or make stdout
unbuffered or always use a newline at the end of your debugging line.
