I'll close this log with the following feedback:

'as' in 3.4.6 release continues to be part in the 4.1.x release as 'asasm' just
to provide ObjAsm/RealView assembler source compatibility (with AOF and ELF
output).

Recently a lot of effort is done to enhance 'asasm' (cfr
http://www.riscos.info/websvn/listing.php?repname=gccsdk&path=%2Ftrunk%2Fgcc4%2Friscos%2Fasasm%2F)
and currently the CPU/architecture selection can be done using -CPU which will
recognize a lot of ARM CPUs and all current architectures (use "-CPU list" to
list all supported ones). This updated 'asasm' version will be part of the
upcoming 4.1.2 release (or currently available as test at
http://www.riscos.info/downloads/gccsdk/testing/).
