I've seen this before too, but have forgotten the cause.  It is simple
if memory serves.

Thank you so much!  Please keep me posted.  BTW if you have a moment
to check out the temporary directory code now in 2.6.8pre and head on mingw/win,
that would be great!  Just a simple (trace open)(disassemble  '(lambda
nil nil)) would do.
