sorry for the delay; too many unscheduled events happening at the same

So, I tested the latest commits:
* 2.6.9pre still does not build.

The problem here appears to be the wrong prototype for 'profil'.
In general, I think GCL should provide its own tentative prototype
only if the target system does not have the approrpriate headers.
* 2.6.8pre fails at the same point as before; this branch does not
appear to contain the fix for sbrk you applied to 2.6.9pre
