OK, thanks for the info. I would like to recommend pretty strongly
that a tagged version be used to build Maxima, so that others can
obtain it (by some means, it's not important how they do it) and then
get the same compiled Maxima.

It would be great if Camm creates a new release and you use it, but
failing that, maybe we can at least convince him to put a tag on the
repo so that you and other users can at least obtain a known version.
"Pre-something" isn't enough to go on, because it is not a specific
version.

For years GCL advertised a different version number than what was on
the tarball. I don't want to carry on with an unspecified version. Let
us try to pressure Camm into making it so that users can obtain a
known version. I know that might or might not come to pass, but we
should try.
