I tested and compared both files and they are similar (except that with gdal_translate I have Metadata tags). Both are not working in QGIS: no value in dataset! Translating into GTIFF is working but I want to keep vrt files to working on them with MapServer. I can send you netcdf and vrt file if you want to test it.
