In Geany, copying text is done by Scintilla, at least within the editor
widget.
Could you test what happens when you copy some text from a standard GTK
widdget, like the Search text field in the toolbar or the Scribble?

Ah it seems to be related to killing geany/gedit with ctrl+c (when
started via command line). In this scenario gedit also fails, and geany
works correctly if I quit it normally.
