I did a small test with T61 with drive encryption versus an external USB
Lacie 500 GB
hard disk. If I placed my FF profile (and thus gears files) on an external
drive I
got over 5x speed improvement with my test compared to the internal disk of
the laptop.
Using encrypted C: drive: 186 sec
Using non-encrypted D: USB drive: 36 sec
