New issue 807 by trpaslik.pl: non-localized $HOME/Desktop used while creating shortcut in lunux
http://code.google.com/p/gears/issues/detail?id=807

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. install non-english Ubuntu 8.10 ;-)
or change of your Desktop directory
   (in ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs file)
2. try to create shortcut on your new desktop (not ~/Desktop/)

What is the expected output?
The shortcut to be created in correct Desktop folder
(which is /home/michal/Pulpit/ for me)

What do you see instead?
The shortcut is not being created at all until
~/Desktop directory is created.
The shortcut is created always in ~/Desktop/ (if exists).

What version of the product are you using?
verified on latest official build as well as on latest svn trunk (3182)

On what operating system?
Ubuntu 8.10, with non-english locales, gcc 4.3.2

Please provide any additional information below.
My Desktop folder is $HOME/Pulpit
(which is default for Ubuntu with Polish language).
Basically, the "create shortcut" feature will work only
for English Ubuntu users right now.
The correct directory can be obtained by `xdg-user-dir DESKTOP`.
This is well described on
http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/xdg-user-dirs

I created patch for gears/desktop/desktop_linux.cc
If someone could review/comment/test it, it would be great.

Please note, that while testing you may need also another small patch for
file gears/desktop/desktop.cc from issue 806:
http://code.google.com/p/gears/issues/detail?id=806

Best Regards,
Michal Šrajer

BTW, many thanks for Gears and Offline-Gmail, I love it!
