You can opt not to do that once you give GMail permission to use Gears. I'm
currently
using Gears for my regular GMail with the latest beta-release Prism under
Windows
Vista, with just the modified install.rdf, and it works just fine. On a
side note,
it's a shame that Google Apps doesn't support Gears just yet.
