I had a problem with Firefox on OS X freezing for a several seconds at a
time on OS
X, even just when typing a URL. For startup, it would freeze for maybe 30
seconds.
Very frustrating.
I disabled all extensions and addons, but no help. Tried deleting and
reinstalling
FF 3, no help. FF 3.5 beta same problem too.
I ran vmmap and found some part of Gears was being loaded by FF despite me
uninstalling from inside FF:
/Library/InputManagers/GearsEnabler/GearsEnabler.bundle/Contents/MacOS/GearsEnabler
After a bit of research, I found to fully deinstall gears on OS X, I needed
to type
/Library/Internet\
Plug-Ins/Gears.plugin/Contents/Resources/uninstall.command
from the terminal prompt (quit web browsers first).
Started FF 3 back up and it's blindingly fast again, yay! No freezes.
I love being able to get to my email offline, but it's not worth bringing
my web
browser to a crawl.
